June 2010 Club Meeting Newsletter
 

President, Bill Gruhn
called the meeting to order. There is one new member this month who is a returning previous member.
Welcome back Don Buck.


 

Vice president, Lee Smith gave a report on the distribution of the Woodworker Club built Book Cases & Books Reading Awards. Nine awards were made at the Jessieville Primary School and 30 awards were made at the Fountain Lake Primary School. The most improved reading recipients were overjoyed to get their book case & books to take home. Club planning is in progress to hopefully add Mountain Pine Primary School next year.


 
Wally Duchow provided status on the club member Shop Visits Program. Watch your e-mail for scheduling announcements. Contact Wally at 915-0233 with any questions.
 

Neil Frevert, Picnic Coordinator, gave his first report on the upcoming Annual Club Picnic that is on the second Wednesday of September every year at the Balboa Pavilion. Mark your calendars for Sept 8th.  Details and ticket sales to follow.




                          Status Reports

The Woodworkers Club is looking for someone good at sound and video equipment.

The Board of Directors is working to upgrade our
equipment to bring you better monthly programs when there is only have
a video to show. If you can help out, please call club
president Bill Gruhn at 915-8825.




 

Bob Deloach thanked the guys who worked on making the box kits for the 2010 blind camp. He is now looking for about ten volunteers to go to the blind camp for a few hours to help the blind campers assemble their boxes. He sent around a sign up sheet and more volunteers are needed. Iif you are
interested in helping this very worthwhile project, give Bob a call
at 922-4557.

 

Long time club member, Fred Treutel announced he is leaving to move with his wife to northeast Missouri for their final retirement location. Several mebers used the microphone to say good bye to Fred and tell a funny or interesting story about him. Stay in touch with us Fred!

Jeff Buck from GB Services gave a talk on saw blades and the correct selection of saw blades for the job. GB Services does a very good job of sharpening saw blades, router cutters, hand saws etc. They also sell a wide selection of saw blades and can make recommendations for specific applications.

 
 
Jeff described key differences in the design of saw blades for ripping or cross cutting wood.

Jeff also highlighted the importance of a positive hook angle (5 to 20 degrees) for table saw blades below the wood versus above the wood blades with a negative hook angle (0 to -5 degrees).
