After that, Wally mentioned the picnic coming up this Sept 9th. and the board decided to invite our web site preferred vendors as our guests . If anyone knows of anyone else who has given us goods or
services at a discount, please notify one of the board members.

Carl Who, is in charge of this years picnic, asked the group what they'd like to eat at the September club picnic. Seems that everyone wants Bar-B-Que. More info and ticket sales will be availableĀ at our next meeting August 12th.

Bob Deloach stood up and thanked all the guys who put in their time and
efforts into making the boxes for the blind camp. So if you weren't
there, but did work on the boxes, here's a thank you to you.

Warren Searls made another pitch for additional volunteers to help make walking sticks for the Village 40th anniversary celebration. If anyone has
extra time, and would like to help, Warren could really use more volunteers. Call Warren at 915-9357

Show & Tell

Dennis Helmer was up first with a really ingenious step stool for kids that he not only made, but re-engineered from an internet picture. He made it to fold up and you can carry it or store it in a small space. Really a cool Idea!

Next Jim Porter was asked by a friend if he could duplicate a Claw foot for a antique secretary desk that they are trying to restore. He not only duplicated it but repaired the one they gave him. A lot of tedious work to making one.

Lastly, Dennis Storck made a card box to hold poker chips and decks of cards. He made it out of beautiful spalted Maple. The dark spalting on the light wood showed up nicely.

Larry Clark showed a Do It Yourself (DIY) network video on making a laminated chess board, and then showed how he made the same board the same way the DIY video demonstrated. Larry also used a bandsaw to cutout the chess pieces to go with the board. Larry said he had about 110 hours invested in the board and about $90.00 worth
of wood.

Pictures of his presentation are in the following table.

Click on DIY network home page to go to the DIY website. Besides woodworking, they also have a large number of home and yard projects information. (Unfortunately, the DIY video that Larry recorded and showed does not appear to be on the website.)

If you want to watch the DIY chessboard making video, you can probably borrow it from Larry if you say nice things about his golf game and collection of woodworking clamps.
