The June meeting was called to order at 7PM by president Wally Duchow.  Visitors, Morris Coston and Floyd Dickinson were introduced and encouraged to join the club.

Lee Smith our project director gave a short informal presentation on the three ongoing projects that are left now. This school year book case awards are finished and the most improved reading students have their book cases. A big success for the club. Thirty Nine happy students now have their book cases and awarded books at home. Job well done by all the guys involved.

Also Lee reported that the bird houses made by the club took in $795.00 when auctioned off at the ArtChurch Studio! This funds 8 lucky kids going to art camp.

One new project starting is the "walking sticks" needed by the Village for the upcoming HSV "40th" anniversary. Warren Searls gave a demonstration on how to make a good walking stick for hiking, and what light weight woods are good to use. If you  would like to know more about the project, you can contact Warren at 915-9357. Warren sent around a sign up sheet for those interested in participating. If you didn't make the meeting and are interested in helping, give Warren a call. A lot of walking sticks for hiking are needed.

Future Programs
Next up, Vice President Bill Gruhn gave an update on future programs and what guests he has lined up. Next month, our own Larry Clark will be giving a demonstration on inlays and making chess boards. Extra seating my be needed for that meeting to accommodate everyone!! Bill has the rest of the year covered for guests and programs. Good job Bill.

Brian Cash showed another of his beautiful intarsia pieces that he custom makes with various wood species & shaped to make a 3D picture.  Impressive work by Brian.

Bill Gruhn showed a cypress wood wheel barrow planter he made for the yard at his wife's request.

Main Program Presentation

Bill Gruhn introduced Dave Fry from Hot Springs who makes custom acoustic and electric guitars to order. Dave mentioned some of the well known musicians that have ordered custom guitars from him. Some of his guitars have very fancy inlays. His guitars start at around $3500.00 and go up to and over $5000.00. He has an array of woodworking machines and custom tools and jigs in his shop. Dave spent a year in an Arizona guitar making school learning his trade and has worked in several guitar making shops. He is on his own in Hot Springs and still learning.

Below are 2 tables of pictures. The first table is pictures of Dave's detailed description of the many steps required to make a guitar. The second table is closeup pictures of various guitar parts used in his presentation. A great & entertaining presentation with too much information to capture for this newsletter.

Automotive paints can be used on solid body electric guitars.

Dave's wife's guitar is "Ferrari Red".
