May Club Meeting Newsletter

President Wally Duchow called the meeting to order at 7PM. First order of business was new members. There were no new members or guests this month.

Project director Lee Smith gave his report on what's been completed so far this year. He mentioned that the presentation of the 30 book cases at Fountain Lake School will be done on May the 26th at 1PM at the school. Jesseville will have their 9 cases presented on May the 29th also at 1PM at the school gym. The 39 bookcases are accounted for and are at Lee Smith's shop waiting to be delivered to the two schools. A big thanks to all of the woodworkers who put in time and sweat into making these 39 book cases. Job well done guys.

Next Treasurer Ray Worthley gave his report and was presented with a check from Wally for $400.00 given to him by the Fountain Lake School for the book case project. That along with $100.00 that was given earlier totaled up to $500.00 to the club from the school. Fountain Lake School if you remember has dedicated their new library to Dick and Betty Herman. Dick was instrumental in getting the book case project off the ground and it is a great success every year.

One of the other projects that has been completed so far this year was a very large book case for the Boys and Girls Club. Harold Randol, project leader,  spoke about the project a gave credit to all who worked on it. The case is 26 feet long and about 8 feet high and it came out beautifully done. All costs were paid for by the Boys and Girls Club. Another job well done guys.

Show & Tell and Club Auction

Ray Worthley talked about a deck chair that he had used on a vacation and how comfortable it was. He then found a small one for a child that he purchased and brought in to show. He has the dimensions of the full sized chair if anyone is interested. He plans on making one.

Larry Clark showed a picture of two dressers that he made for his grand kids. They were too large to bring in, so we got to at least see a picture of them finished.

Lee Smith showed a new type of wood joint that he came up with, and passed it around.

Fred Treutel auctioned off the last of the tools from Al Gunther's shop. Fred is quite a sales man!!

MAIN PROGRAM PRESENTATION

After the break, Vice President Bill Gruhn introduced Terry and Joshua Mitchell from Southern Fastening Systems. One of their stores is located right here in Hot Springs at 3531 Central Ave. They're on the east side of the street across from the big church just before you get to the Panda restaurant north of the 270 by-pass. They did a big presentation on pneumatic air guns from pin nailers to narrow crown staplers. They sell a number of different brands of nailers and screw guns, they also repair just about all brands of nailers. They also do demonstrations at the store if you're looking for a new nailer. One of the questions asked by someone was about oiling your pneumatic tools. The one thing Terry stressed most is "Do not use WD 40 in your guns". It will eat up the "O" rings real fast. At the end of the presentation the guys gave out two pneumatic palm nailers as door prizes. Bill Gruhn and Dick McGuire were the lucky recipients. Terry mentioned to Bill that their store would be happy to supply the club with the nails we need to use in our toy making. A very nice gesture from a couple of really nice guys.

They have been added to the list of club preferred merchants on the club website classified ads webpage. They will give us 10% discount on tools and services,

One of their specialities is the repair of nail guns.

Terry & Joshua showed and demonstrated many of the nail guns and power tools they brought in. Pictures of the tools & equipment at the club meeting are provided in the following table.
