Blind Camp attendees with Woodworker built take home project

Again this year, Bob DeLoach is the club's Annual Blind Camp project leader. You can reach Bob at 922-4557 with any project questions. Club volunteers are making precut & prepared wood boxes for final assembly by summer blind camp attendees. The above picture shows a previous blind camp where attendees are being guided in their assembly of their Woodworker prepared "treasure box".

Pictures and specifications to guide Woodworker volunteers on the Blind Camp project are provided below. Bob (922-4557) can answer any additional questions you have. 

General guidelines:

  1. All woodstock is 5 1/2" wide by 3/4" soft pine (i.e., 1 X 6 pine)
  2. All routing is 3/8" deep
  3. Each kit has 1 bottom: 5 1/2" wide by 8" long with 1 side edge routing 3/4" wide (3/8" deep)
    1. bottom side: predrilled holes for 15 gauge panel nails
  4. Each kit has 1 top: 5 1/2" wide by 8" long with 1 side edge routing 3/4" wide (3/8" deep)
    1. top side: 1 centered predrilled 1/8" hole 3/8" deep
  5. Each kit has 2 sides: 5 1/2" tall by 8" long with 3/8" X 3/8" wide routing 3/8" from each end (see pictures)
    1. each end of sides: 2 predrilled holes for 15 gauge panel nails, 9/16" from edge (see pictures)
  6. Each kit has 2 ends: 5 1/2" tall by 4 3/4" wide with 3/8" X 3/8" wide routing flush with each end (see pictures)
  7. Each completed kit: 1 top, 1 bottom, 2 sides, 2 ends in a plastic sack.

Parts Detail Pictures

 

2 identical sides (5 1/2"H X 8"W) & 2 identical ends (5 1/2"H X 4 3/4"W) 

 

Typical 5 1/2"H X 8"W side. 3/8"wide X 3/8" deep routing 3/8" from each end. 

Observe two nail holes 9/16" from each end, predrilled for 15 gauge panel nail.

 

Typical 5 1/2"H X 4 3/4"W side. 3/8"wide X 3/8" deep routing flush with each end. 

 

Typical 3/4" wide X 3/8" deep routing on all 4 edges of every top & bottom piece (5 1/2"W X 8"L). Note only bottom piece has 6  predrilled 15 gauge panel nail holes 3/8" from edges.
